Staff Reporter:
A banking client has filed a complaint with the police claiming 200-bhori gold went missing from the locker registered under his name at a Pubali Bank branch on Khan Jahan Ali Road in Bagerhat town.
Police, CID and PBI have joined the investigation into the complaint filed with the Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station. Bagerhat Additional Police Superintendent Shamim Hossain said officers are investigating the incident.
In the complaint, the locker owner Sumon Kumar Das claims that he stored 200-bhori gold belonging to his family and relatives in the locker on 15 October 2025.
However, he found the locker empty when he opened it on Wednesday, and promptly informed banking officials and the local police.
According to banking experts and officials, a locker requires two keys to open: one belongs to the client and the other to the concerned banking authorities. A single alone cannot unlock the hold.
Sumon Kumar Das had his key in possession, making it impossible for anyone else to open the locker, said the concerned branch’s Assistant General Manager Monirul Amin.
In the registration documents, Sumon also did not mention the belongings kept inside, the banking official added, suggesting an investigation is needed to reveal the real circumstances.
