Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to inaugurate the Family Card distribution programme on 10 March in Bogura Sadar Upazila on a pilot basis.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam disclosed the information on Friday.
He spoke to journalists before offering prayers at the shrine premises of Shah Sultan Balkhi (RA), located in the historic Mahasthangarh area of Shibganj upazila.
The state minister said the Family Card distribution would begin from Bogura as part of the government’s announced social safety net programmes.
“This will be Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first official visit to Bogura since assuming office,” he said, adding that preparations are already underway with the district administration and local leaders and activists making necessary arrangements.
Under the Family Card programme, each cardholder family will receive Tk2,500 per month in financial assistance. Women from extremely poor, poor and lower-income families across the country will be brought under this facility.
Sources concerned said Ward No. 3 of Shakharia Union under Bogura Sadar upazila has been selected for the pilot implementation. Field-level data collection has already started to identify potential beneficiary families.
