BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has given up Bogura-6 parliamentary seat as he secured victory in two constituencies in the 13th national elections, according to officials of Election Commission (EC).
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has officially informed it to the EC for vacating the Bogura-6 seat.
He contested and won from Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 seats in the parliamentary polls. Now he is sched-uled to take oath today as the Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-17.
EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed told reporters yesterday that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has given up the Bogura-6 seat.
According to the rules, a person can participate in the election from a maximum three seats. But a person can take oath as a MP from only one seat if he/she wins from more than one seat.
As per the Representation of the People Order (RPO), a vacant parliamentary seat must be filled through a by-election within 90 days of declaration.
So, the EC is required to arrange a by-election in Bogura-6 following completion of the gazette process.
