Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has warned of strict action if ongoing attacks across the country are not stopped immediately.
Speaking at an emergency press conference on Friday, he said that while victory and defeat are natural parts of any election, any abnormal situation would inevitably raise questions.
“Winning and losing are part of elections. But if anything unusual happens, it will certainly be questioned. Today, attacks are taking place in different parts of the country. Homes are being targeted. This is a fascist-style approach, which is unfortunate for the nation,” he said.
The Jamaat chief added that his party believes in constructive politics but cannot remain passive if others refuse to do the same.
“Even if we want positive politics, if they do not want it, there is nothing we can do. If they do not stop the attacks immediately, we will be compelled to take strict measures,” he warned.
