BNP wins general election

Staff Reporter:

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed strong confidence that it will secure more than a two-thirds majority in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and form the next government. The statement was made by Mahdi Amin, spokesperson of the party’s central election management committee and adviser to the BNP chairperson.

He shared these views during a press briefing at the BNP Election Management Committee office in Gulshan on Thursday night.

According to Mahdi, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has already been unofficially declared the winner in two constituencies — Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17.

However, he alleged that since the night of 11 February, rival political groups have engaged in various forms of electoral misconduct, including vote manipulation, fraud, and the takeover of polling centres.

Despite these claims, Mahdi said BNP candidates, contesting under the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol, are reportedly leading by significant margins in many constituencies, with several already unofficially confirmed as elected.

He added that, with what he described as overwhelming public support, the BNP is hopeful of forming the next government by securing more than two-thirds of the parliamentary seats.
