Md A Jasim Uddin, Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate in Cumilla-4 (Debidwar), announced his withdrawal from the election on Thursday, citing widespread irregularities.
He made the announcement coming on live after voting concluded.
Jasim, also supported by BNP, was contesting against Hasnat Abdullah, the South Region chief organiser of the National Citizen Party (NCP), representing the Jamaat-led alliance.
He alleged that ballot boxes were tampered with, polling agents were expelled, and party activists were attacked while trying to reach polling centres.
“There have been threats from house to house, and vote buying occurred throughout the day. Considering the situation, I am withdrawing as a candidate for the truck symbol to protect the interests of the people of Debidwar,” he said.
Jasim also criticised the administration, stating that repeated calls for assistance went unanswered. “The authorities did not provide any support despite our appeals,” he added.
