Campaigning for JS polls ends

Staff Reporter:
Election campaign by contesting candidates for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections and referen-dum scheduled for February 12 ended this morning.
Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said all kinds of election campaigns remained prohibited after 7:30am today.
“We hope everyone will remain committed to performing the remaining election responsibilities properly after the end of campaigning,” he said.
The EC secretary added that no form of election campaigning would be allowed on social media.
Election campaigns that began on January 22 ended yesterday, 48 hours ahead of voting.
According to Section 18 of the EC’s Political Parties and Candidates Code of Conduct 2025, no registered political party, party-nominated candidate, independent candidate or anyone on their behalf can begin election campaigning three weeks before the scheduled voting day, and all forms of campaigning must end 48 hours before the start of voting.
Section 19 of the code stated that candidates must remove their campaign materials used in the electoral areas within 48 hours after completion of voting at their own responsibility.
Voting will be conducted simultaneously across 299 parliamentary constituencies nationwide from 7:30am to 4:30pm on February 12, through ballot papers using transparent ballot boxes.
