The government has announced financial assistance and housing support for the family of Dipu Chandra Das, a young man from the Hindu community who was brutally killed on December 18 last year in the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh district.
Dipu Das was beaten and ultimately lynched by a mob following allegations of making offensive remarks and was set on fire by hanging him to a tree. At the time, the incident was widely reported in the media as an act of communal violence.
Under the government assistance program, Taka 25 lakh will be allocated for the construction of a house in line with the family’s needs, to be implemented by the National Housing Authority, Chief Adviser’s Office said yesterday.
In addition, cash assistance will be provided to family members. Tak a10 lakh each will be given to Dipu Das’s father and wife, and an FDR of Taka 5 lakh will be created to ensure the future security of his child.
The assistance will be implemented under the supervision of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Tarakanda upazila.
