“Last night, His Excellency the President cast his vote through postal ballot from Bangabhaban. He cast his vote for Pabna-5 constituency,” his Assistant Private Secretary (APS) Mohammad Shagor Hossain told yesterday afternoon.
The APS said an official of the Postal Department took the ballot to the authorities concerned this morning.
According to the Article 27 of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the Head of the State can cast a vote through the postal ballot.
The registered voters, those who are imprisoned or in legal custody, Bangladeshi expatriates and polling officers and members of the law enforcement agencies, can exercise their rights to vote through postal ballots in the upcoming general polls as well, according to the Election Commission Secretariat.
Besides, expatriates residing in 122 countries will also vote in postal ballots this time.
Voting for the 13th general polls and referendum will be held on February 12 from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
