16 police officers injured in clashes with protesters: DMP

Staff Reporter:

At least 16 police officers were injured in clashes with protesters in the capital, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, the DMP commissioner said the injured officers were from different units of the DMP.

Among them were an additional DIG, an inspector, a sergeant and several constables.

Most of the injured sustained injuries to their hands, legs and heads. Some received first aid, while one officer required stitches on the head, he added.

The clashes occurred on Friday (6 Feb) in the InterContinental Hotel intersection area of Dhaka.

The confrontation involved activists of Inqilab Moncho demanding investigation and justice for the killing of Hadi, and government employees protesting for the implementation of the ninth national pay scale.

The situation escalated when the protesters attempted to march toward the Chief Adviser’s residence, prompting police to intervene to disperse them, which led to the clashes.
