The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has rescued a three-year-old child within 24 hours of his kidnapping and also detained four suspected abductors, including the main perpetrator.
AZM Intekhab Chowdhury, director of RAB Legal and Media Wing, announced the rescue mission at a press conference held at the elite force’s media centre in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka on Friday.
According to the RAB official, the three-year-old and his mother were riding on a battery-powered rickshaw in the capital’s Mugda area on Thursday.
At one point, as the child grew thirsty, his mother asked the driver, Chan Mia, to pull over near the front gate of the Mugda Medical College Hospital. She got down from the rickshaw, and went to a nearby shop to buy a bottle of water for her toddler.
Seizing the moment, Chan Mia drove off with the child. Upon returning to the parking site, the mother desperately searched for the rickshaw and her child, but could not find either of them. Subsequently, she filed a general diary (GD) with the Mugda Police Station.
Law enforcers promptly launched a drive aided by technology. They pinpointed the abductors and the child at a location in Gaibandha.
Eventually, RAB rescued the child and apprehended four abductors, including the main suspect Chan Mia.
