‘Rule of law must for nation’s dev’

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr A F M Khalid Hossain yesterday said rule of law is one of the key pillars of a nation’s development.
“In the absence of rule of law, a culture of mob justice may emerge in the country,” he said while ad-dressing a function at Satkania yesterday.
The function was arranged for inaugurating of development work of the Satkania Court building and a civic reception accorded to the adviser by Satkania Bar Association.
The Adviser said that ensuring access to justice at the doorsteps of the people is one of the government’s main commitments. The government is working to make the justice system accessible to ordinary citi-zens.
He said century-old Satkania court building will be built as a modern multi-storey building.
About the February 12 national parliament election the adviser said it would be a historic moment as after a long time people of the country are getting the opportunity to exercise their voting rights.
He expressed hope that people would be able to cast their votes in a festive atmosphere. “We will hand over power to the elected representatives and take leave,” he said.
The event was chaired by Advocate Mohammad Sulaiman, President of the Satkania Bar Association. Among others, Joint District and Sessions Judge of Satkania Court Siraj Uddin, Associate Professor of the Department of Law at Chattogram University Saeed Ahsan Khalid and General Secretary of the Bar Association Advocate Hafizul Islam Manik also spoke on the occasion.
