NCP leader Hasnat Abdullah on Friday said he could hear “footsteps of fascism once again” amid rumours of forceful occupation of polling centres on 12 February.
Voters must gather the courage to come to polling centres on the election day, ignoring warnings that the centres will be overrun by “miscreants”, Hasnat said while speaking at an election campaign rally at a school in Chiora union, Chauddagram upazila, Cumilla.
Mentionable, Hasnat is a candidate of the Jamaat-led 10-party alliance in Cumilla-4 constituency for the 12 February general elections.
“Whoever is thinking of stealing ballot boxes on the election day must take caution, because after the elections, with Allah’s help, the 10-party alliance will form the government,” he told the audience at the rally.
During the 17 years until August 2024, Bangladesh was turned into an open prison, where anyone could be held as a hostage. Abduction and extrajudicial killing of dissenters was prevalent.
But after the July-August 2024 uprising, these practices will never again be repeated in Bangladesh, where the 10-party alliance will govern.
In the new Bangladesh run by the alliance, the freedom to express opposition and different views will be ensured. None will bear communal identities like Hindu, Muslim, mainland people, and ethnic minority, and rather, everyone will belong to a single common group: Bangladesh, Hasnat said.
