People from all walks of life yesterday with a heartfelt shock paid rich tributes to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, saying her death has caused an irreparable loss to the nation.
People described Begum Khaleda Zia was as an honest, fair and uncompromising leader against any ir-regularity and was head of government for three times, who worked extensively for the poor and com-mon people.
General people were also seen shocked across the country.
The entire nation is saddened at the demise of Khaleda Zia .
Calling her an uncompromising leader, people said her guidance was crucial in the current political reali-ty and ahead of upcoming elections, and expressed hope that the country would move forward on the democratic path under the leadership of her son, Tarique Rahman.
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, widely regarded as an uncompromising leader for democracy in Bangladesh, passed away yesterday morning while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka City.
She was 80.
The three-time former prime minister, Khaleda Zia, had been suffering from multiple health complica-tions, including heart and lung, liver and kidney, diabetes, arthritis and eye-related ailments. She had a permanent pacemaker and previously underwent stenting in her heart.
She was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 following the advice of her medical board after being diagnosed with infections in her heart and lungs. She had also been suffering from pneumonia.
