At least four people have died after two launches, Zakir Samrat-3 and Adventure-9, collided on the Meghna River in Chandpur amid dense fog. Several others sustained injuries in the accident.
Syed Mushfiqur Rahman, SP of the Chandpur River Police, confirmed the latest casualty figures on Friday morning.
The collision occurred around 2am on Thursday near Harina in Chandpur Sadar.
Babu Lal Baidya, deputy director (Traffic) of Chandpur BIWTA, said dense fog had disrupted river traffic, contributing to the accident. He added that both launches collided in the Harina area, resulting in at least two confirmed deaths and several injuries.
Authorities have not yet identified the destinations of the vessels at the time of the collision, making it difficult to confirm the names and identities of the victims immediately.
