Staff Reporter:
Gono Odhikar Parishad’s (GOP) General Secretary Rashed Khan has decided to leave the party within a day or two and join BNP to contest the general elections with the “paddy sheaf” symbol, a senior GOP member told reporters Friday.
Rashed Khan would quit from all posts within Gono Odhikar Parishad on Saturday or Sunday, said the party’s Mass Media Coordinator Abu Hanif.
He would contest the general elections from the Jhenidah-4 constituency as a BNP candidate with BNP’s election symbol, Abu Hanif added.
The next general secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad would be selected at the next meeting of the higher council, Abu Hanif said.
On Thursday, BNP announced it would leave two seats – Patuakhali-3 and Jhenidah-4 – for Gono Odhikar Parishad’s President Nurul Haque Noor and General Secretary Rashed Khan respectively.
The country’s biggest political party said it would field no candidate in the seats.
