Three killed after being run over by train in Gazipur

Three women were killed after being run over by a train in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 5pm in the Tekpara area, east of Arikhola Railway Station, when the Noakhali-bound Upakul Express was passing through the station, police and local sources said.

The deceased were identified as Kamala Begum, 55, a resident of Morjal area under Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi; her granddaughter Anadi Akter, 13, daughter of Babu Mia of Dewalertek area under Kaliganj municipality; and their neighbour Sadia Begum, 24, wife of Mobarak Hossain.

According to locals, the grandmother, granddaughter and their neighbour were walking along the railway track when they were accidentally run over by the train.

Kamala Begum and Sadia Begum died on the spot, while Anadi Akter was critically injured. Locals rescued her and rushed her to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Dilip Chandra Sarkar, Sub-Inspector of Narsingdi Railway Police Outpost said police visited the spot and completed the inquest procedures.
