A Dhaka court on Saturday granted a fresh four-day remand for three accused linked to fugitive suspect Faisal Karim Masud in the case filed over the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The accused are Faisal’s wife Saheda Parvin Samia, his friend Maria Akter Lima, and his brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad granted a four-day remand for each of them after DB Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the investigation officer, sought seven days’ remand for the trio.
Meanwhile, the court also sent another accused, rent-a-car operator Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Uzzal, to jail after police sought his detention.
The other accused arrested so far in the case are Faisal’s father Md Humayun Kabir and mother Most Hashi Begum, Faisal’s associate Md Kabir, and two others — Sibiun Dew and Sanjay Chisim — who allegedly helped him flee to India.
Among them, Humayun and Hashi have given confessional statements before the court.
On 12 December, Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a potential independent candidate from Dhaka-8, was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road in the capital’s Paltan area while travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital before being flown to Singapore on Monday for advanced treatment, where he passed away on Thursday.
Police said CCTV footage identified Faisal Karim Masud as the shooter and Alamgir Sheikh as the motorcycle driver.
Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case with Paltan Model Police Station over the incident on 14 December.
