Metro rail operations are set to resume on Friday night as the protesting workers have withdrawn their duty boycotts amid reports the authorities could pursue disciplinary measures against them.
The last trains for the day are is set to leave Uttara around 9pm and Motijheel around 9:40pm. The operations would continue on Saturday, bringing relief to general people and commuters.
A section of the workers launched the movement early in the morning demanding immediate introduction of dedicated job regulations, even after the authorities assured them the issue would be discussed for approval at a board meeting on 18 December.
Later, news spread that the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), the metro rail operating company, was considering disciplinary actions in line with the government’s warning against unauthorised protests ahead of the general elections.
On Tuesday and Thursday, the government announced that all unsanctioned protests that cause public sufferings as well as unauthorised street demonstrations would be dealt with strongly in order to ensure a peaceful election environment.
