Tarique claims only BNP can curb corruption

Staff Reporter:

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman yesterday claimed that if anyone can curb the menace of corrup-tion in Bangladesh, it is only Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) that has the ability to free the country from corruption.
He said, “If anyone can curb corruption in Bangladesh, it is only possible for the BNP. This is because we have historically curbed corruption in this country. Insha’Allah, we will be able to perform this task for the people of the country in the future.”
Tarique Rahman made the remarks as the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony of the BNP’s 7-day program titled ‘Plan for Nation Building’ held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Conven-tion Hall in the city.
He said that BNP was in charge of running the country from 2001 to 2006. Prior to that, the fugitive autocrat was in power. “We saw how they spread corruption in the country during that time. Later, Khaleda Zia’s government in 2001 gradually improved the state of corruption. There is a beautiful anal-ysis by an international organization on how the country was slowly pulled out of corruption. Therefore, we can say firmly and with great confidence that only the BNP has the capability to curb corruption in this country.”
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the event yesterday morning.
BNP joint secretary general Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel moderated the event while BNP senior leaders spoke in the event.
Different units of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from the city participated in the event.
