Staff Reporter:
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged the country’s “democratic forces” to always stay united to pre-empt a reemergence of “fallen fascist forces.”
He also dubbed “fascist Awami League” as “historically a dangerous enemy of democracy.”
The BNP leader made the remarks in a facebook post on Friday, a day ahead of the anniversary of dictator Ershad’s fall.
On 6 December 1990, the combined forces of students and other civilian groups deposed Ershad’s junta under the leadership of uncompromising leader Khaleda Zia, also BNP chairperson, Tarique said.
In the same democratic spirit, the general people again rose up against Awami League’s fascist rule and overthrew the regime on 5 August 2024, Tarique wrote in the facebook post.
“Following the fall of the autocrats last year, people will have to continue their relentless struggle for reviving democracy in its fullest form and establishing democratic values in the state as well as society,” he said.
