Visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay paid a courtesy call on President Mo-hammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban yesterday.
On his arrival at Bangabhaban this afternoon as part of his three-day state visit to Dhaka, the Bhu-tanese PM was welcomed by the President.
Later, they held a formal discussion at the Credential Hall of Bangabhaban.
Terming the Bangladesh’s ‘deep friendship’ with Bhutan, President Shahabuddin said the friendly relations between the two countries would deepen further in the days to come.
The existing bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Bhutan in the business, trade, hydropower, ed-ucation and health sectors would further strengthen in the coming days, he hoped.
During the meeting, the Bhutanese PM thanked Bangladesh for increasing the number of seats in Bangladesh’s medical colleges and reserving seats in engineering universities for Bhutanese stu-dents.
Dasho Tshering Tobgay highly appreciated the overall development and progress of Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister hoped that the relations between the two countries would further enhance in future.
Earlier, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Air-port in Dhaka at 8:15 am yesterday on a three-day visit.
Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus gave him a warm welcome at the airport.
After a brief meeting between the two leaders, a smart contingent of the armed forces division of-fered Bhutanese PM a ‘guard of honour’.
After the airport formalities, the Bhutanese Prime Minister went to the National Memorial in Savar and paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
At this time, Tshering Tobgay planted a sapling in the memorial premises and signed the visitors’ book there also.
Meanwhile, the visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister signed the Visitors Book’ kept at Bangabhaban.
The visiting Prime Minister’s entourage members included Minister for Foreign Affairs and Exter-nal Trade D. N. Dhungel, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment Leonpo Namgyal Dorji, and Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, among others.
From the Bangladesh side, Commercial Adviser to the interim government Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, President’s Office Secretary Khan Md Nurul Amin, Military Secretary Major General Adil Chowdhury and other military and civilian officials were present there.
