Death sentence against Hasina ‘will be executed’: Salahuddin

Staff Reporter:

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the death sentence handed down to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina “will be implemented, Insha’Allah.”

He added that the people of Bangladesh would witness the implementation and that future state leaders would remember that “there is no place for autocracy and fascism in this country.”

Salahuddin made the remarks on Saturday afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at a rally titled “Freedom Fighters and the Generation of the Liberation War: Vigilant Guards for Protecting Independence, Sovereignty, and Democracy,” held at the Central Shaheed Minar premises.

The event was jointly organised by the Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal and the Generation of the Liberation War.

The BNP leader alleged that the Awami League had “never been a political or democratic party,” describing it as a “mafia-fascist force wearing the mask of democracy.”

He accused the party of repeatedly violating the Constitution, including from the floor of Parliament.

Salahuddin said that the people’s expectations, earned through the mass uprising and the blood of countless martyrs, were for a strong democratic state.

He warned that if current and future governments fail to meet these expectations, “fascist politics may rise again.”

He stressed that democratic practices must continue to prevent such outcomes.

The rally was presided over by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal President Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat and was also addressed by BNP Chairperson’s Advisor and former opposition chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque.
