Staff Reporter:
Thousands of people from all walks of life visited the mausoleum of former President Ziaur Rahman on Thursday to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
On this day in 1975, amidst national uncertainty, soldiers and civilians joined forces in a historic uprising that safeguarded Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. They freed President Ziaur Rahman from detention and helped him assume state power.
Ziaur Rahman later guided the nation through a transformative period, introducing multi-party democracy and laying the foundation for development and production-focused politics.
To commemorate the day, party flags were hoisted at BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan and across local offices nationwide from 6am Thursday.
At 10am, senior party leaders and activists paid tribute at Ziaur Rahman’s mausoleum, offering floral wreaths and reciting prayers.
