Govt mulls using drones to monitor national election: Shafiqul

Staff Reporter:

The interim government is exploring the use of drones to oversee the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Thursday.

Alongside, the government is also considering equipping police personnel with body cameras and installing CCTV cameras at polling stations, he said.

“The legal aspects of these measures are being examined,” Shafiqul said at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this afternoon.

The issues were discussed at the Advisory Council meeting, chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, while reviewing preparations for the upcoming election, he added.

Earlier, the Election Commission decided to prohibit drone use during the upcoming parliamentary polls.
