People won’t accept any election blueprint to favour a party: Rizvi

Staff Reporter:

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has warned that if the upcoming national election is manipulated to ensure victory for any particular party or group, the people of Bangladesh will not accept it.

Speaking at a programme in Mirpur on Friday, organised to pray for the recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and to mark the death anniversary of party adviser Kazi Asaduzzaman Asad, Rizvi said concerns have grown among the public about whether the next election will produce “engineered results,” especially in light of the recent controversial Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Jagannath University Students’ Union (JAKSU) elections.

“The issue is not whether DUCSU elections were held, but the way they were held,” Rizvi said, directly accusing the Dhaka University vice-chancellor of failing to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates.

He questioned why ballots were printed in Nilkhet, suggesting that the election process served the interests of a particular group.

He cautioned that such incidents raise serious doubts about whether the upcoming national election will also be manipulated.

Rizvi alleged that Sheikh Hasina in the past suppressed free and fair elections to consolidate her rule and attempted to secure victory for chosen candidates.

“If a similar blueprint is executed in the coming election, it will be a great misfortune for the nation,” Rizvi warned.

BNP Standing Committee member Selima Rahman also addressed the event, accusing the government of continued conspiracies against the BNP.

She urged party supporters to remain united, claiming that former prime minister Sheikh Hasina has destroyed state institutions, the consequences of which the people are now suffering.
