BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has called for a clear public statement on whether any adviser of the interim government is involved in the recent Gulshan extortion incident.
He also warned that failure to investigate could raise further questions about the advisers.
“If this incident is not probed, more questions will arise about the advisers,” he said while addressing a press conference on Thursday (14 August) in Dhaka.
Salahuddin said the matter must be made transparent before the public and investigated thoroughly.
The BNP leader also urged political parties to refrain from making misleading statements about the upcoming national election.
He claimed that the true identity of those seeking to delay or derail the polls had been exposed and warned that parties attempting to boycott the election would be sidelined from national politics.
Salahuddin stressed the need for a strict crackdown before the polls to ensure a proper electoral environment, expressing concern that armed groups could attempt to create unrest.
He added that it is the government’s responsibility to remove any doubts about the election process.
