Dengue death toll hits 40 with two new fatalities

Two more people died from dengue in the 24 hours till Friday morning, bringing the total death toll to 40 so far this year, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in an update.

The deceased were identified as men aged 72 years and 50 years.

In the 24 hours till 8am Friday, 159 people were hospitalised with the viral disease across the country, the most being in Barishal division with 107 hospitalisations.

Thirty-three others were hospitalised in Dhaka division, including 21 in city areas, 11 were hospitalised in Chattogram division, 6 in Rajshahi division, and 2 in Sylhet division.

In total, 9,222 people have been infected with the mosquito-borne disease so far this year.
