Muggers wearing RAB uniform to be arrested soon’

Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) yesterday said they were try-ing their best to bring the culprits to justice at the quickest possible time involved in robbing Taka one crore in the capital’s Uttara area on Saturday morning wearing uniform like the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
“We’re very much concerned about the incident. We’re trying our best to bring the people involved in the incident to book as soon as possible,” he said.
The adviser was replying to a question after coming out of a meeting of the core committee on law and order at the Home Ministry’s conference room in Bangladesh Secretariat here.
In response to another question, he said the overall law and order situation is satisfactory.
About the preparation of the law enforcement agencies for holding polls, the home adviser said that they have the preparations.
“The Election Commission (EC) will announce the election date. The law enforcement agencies are pre-pared to hold the election as per the date fixed by the EC,” he said.
Replying to a question about inactivity of police, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said a mindset has devel-oped among the people in the last 15 years that if police won’t beat or kick people, they are inactive.
“The police are now more active than before,” he said, adding that they’re working to build a humane police force.
About the push-ins at frontiers by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), the home adviser said they have held formal talks over the matter with Indian authorities.
Coming down heavily over push-ins through rivers and jungle, he said, “It could not be happened in any civilized country.”
The home adviser reiterated his call to India to follow the due process of law in sending back Bangla-deshi citizens.
“If the people are Bangladeshis, follow the proper channel to send them back and we will accept them,” he added.
