Over Tk 3.43cr toll on Jamuna Bridge collected in 24 hrs

A Correspondent:

Tangail: The accumulated toll collection on the Jamuna Bridge has significantly increased over the past 24 hours till Saturday evening due to a large influx of vehicles on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, particu-larly during the Eid travel period.
A total toll amounting to Taka 3 crore 43 lakh 13 thousand 200 has been collected from 49,182 vehicles that crossed the Jamuna Bridge during this time.
Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office Ahsanul Kabir Pavel confirmed this information, stating that from Thursday (12 am) to Friday (12 am) the toll was collected from vehicles travelling in both directions.
According to the Jamuna Bridge Authority, among the vehicles that crossed the bridge, 18,365 were North Bengal-bound, from which Taka 1 crore 48 lakh 38 thousand 300 was collected. Meanwhile, 30,817 Dhaka-bound vehicles generated tolls amounting to Taka 1 crore 94 lakh 74 thousand 900.
Pavel further said that there has been significant vehicular pressure on the highway, as commuters return to Dhaka after spending Eid holidays with their families in North Bengal. This has led to increased traf-fic on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Tangail Highway and a surge in toll collections.
Currently, a total of 18 toll booths-nine on each side of the bridge-are operating to manage the flow of vehicles. Additionally, separate booths have been set up on both ends of the bridge for motorcycles.
In the last four days, a total of 1,46,568 vehicles have crossed the bridge, generating tolls amounting to Taka 102.90 crore, the executive engineer added.
