Highest single-day dengue death toll: 5 dead, 159 hospitalised

Staff Reporter:

Five people have died from Aedes mosquito-borne dengue fever in the past 24 hours across the country, marking the highest single-day death toll from dengue this year.

During the same period, 159 new patients have been admitted to hospitals, with the majority—124 cases—reported from the Barishal division.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Friday (13 June) by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This marks the highest number of dengue-related deaths recorded in a single day in 2025.

From January to 31 December 2024, a total of 101,214 people have been infected with dengue, and 575 have died from the disease. In comparison, the previous year (1 January to 31 December 2023) saw 1,705 dengue-related deaths and 321,179 hospital admissions.
