Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H. Mansur has denied allegations that he purchased a property worth Tk 45 crore (approx. 13.5 million dirhams) in Dubai in the name of his daughter Mehrin Sara Mansur. The accusation surfaced following a Facebook post by Sajib Wazed Joy, son of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In an interview with a media outlet on Tuesday (June 10), Governor Mansur clarified: “This is my daughter’s property, purchased back in 2023, well before I became governor. She is married and lives in Dubai with her husband and children due to business. At nearly 40 years old, she is capable of purchasing a home on her own. I have no involvement with this property.”
The controversy began after Sajib Wazed Joy shared a post on Monday (June 9) originally made by former Chhatra League central committee general secretary S.M. Zakir Hossain. The post alleged that Ahsan H. Mansur, who “suddenly became governor following the July Conspiracy Revolution,” bought a 450 million BDT flat for his “beloved daughter” on December 24, 2024.
The post further claimed that a property worth 13.5 million dirhams in Dubai was traced under Mehrin Sara Mansur’s name, implying the governor was involved in money laundering—though it did not provide any supporting evidence.
Responding to this, the governor stated that while the property documents do list him as the father of Sara Mansur, this does not imply ownership or involvement. “It is unfortunate that Sajib Wazed Joy is making public comments on something like this,” he said.
The back-and-forth has sparked fresh political debate across the country.
