BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has called upon the government to immediately arrange an oath-taking function, complying with the court verdict, or get ready to face a tougher movement from Friday.
He came up with the warning while addressing a gathering on the Nagar Bhaban premises on Thursday afternoon.
“I am telling the government for the last time to arrange the oath-taking ceremony soon. Otherwise, we, along with the city dwellers, will intensify our movement from Friday,” he sounded the note of caution to bag his mayoral post.
Ishraque further said, “It is the last opportunity for the government to ensure its self-correction.”
Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court said that it the Election Commission (EC) that will determine whether Ishraque will be sworn in as Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
A seven-member full bench of the court, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, made the statement on Thursday, while delivering its decision on a petition in this regard.
On Wednesday, the court scheduled Thursday to hear the EC’s explanation regarding the gazette notification declaring Ishraque as mayor of the DSCC.
