Secretariat employees who have been demanding the repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordi-nance, 2025 suspended their today’s protest following a meeting with three secretaries.
After the meeting held at the Ministry of Land yesterday afternoon, Senior Secretary of the ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed told reporters that discussions were held with the protesting employees but there has been no concrete decision yet.
“We have listened to their demands and will convey those to the Cabinet Secretary,” Saleh Ahmed said, adding, “They have no program today. They have suspended their movement for the time being. They want to observe what decision the government takes next. There is no conflict among us…we all are col-leagues.”
The meeting began around 2:45pm at the conference room of the Ministry of Land with ASM Saleh Ahmed presiding.
Earlier in the day, government employees staged demonstrations near the Secretariat for the fourth con-secutive day, demanding the withdrawal of the ordinance.
The employees gathered beside Building No. 6 in Secretariat’s Badamtoli area and began their protest around 11 am.
Due to the ongoing agitation, Dhaka Metropolitan Police restricted the entry of visitors to the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Security was tightened at all gates and journalists were only allowed entry in the afternoon.
