Nahid calls upon youths to fight against all forces for ‘July Charter’

Staff Reporter:

NCP Convener Nahid Islam on Friday called on the country’s youth to unitedly confront all forces working against the declaration of “July Charter.”

July uprising has resulted in the birth of NCP and its proclamation is essential, Nahid said while speaking at an event organized by NCP’s youth wing at a Dhaka hotel.

The July Charter is expected to precisely outline the reforms needed in current state mechanism, which allegedly favour fascist policies, as agreed upon by different political parties.

He alleged that some young leaders have become impatient for assuming power through votes and other means, even though almost every other political force wants to see the outlines for crucial state reforms before general elections.

In this backdrop, NCP’s chief focus is to rally the country’s youth to fight for the country’s democracy and for protecting the nation’s future.

“No matter how strong the forces are against the July Charter declaration, we will confront them,” he said.

He also lamented that some among the uprising forces are unfortunately interpreting NCP’s push for July Charter as a plot for enforcing regime change through state reforms. These misled political forces want to go to power under the existing, corrupt constitution, he alleged.

However, NCP is against such approaches and want to see progress on fundamental reforms in state affairs before the next general elections are arranged, Nahid Islam said, urging the youth to work towards this goal.
