A Dhaka court on Friday placed three accused, Tamim Hawlader, Samrat Mallik and Palash Sardar, on a five-day fresh remand in a case lodged over the murder of Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Shammo.
Judge MA Azharul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order as police produced them before the court and pleaded for a seven-day remand each.
Police arrested the accused in separate drives in the city’s Green Road and Rajabazar areas on 13 May, within hours of Shammo’s killing. On 17 May, a court placed each of them on a six-day remand.
Shahriar Alam Shammo was a final-year student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) and literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Shammo was stabbed to death at Suhrawardi Udyan on 13 May. Shariful Islam, brother of Shammo, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the murder on 14 May.
