Bull ‘Raja’ ready to awe customers at Rajbari qurbani market

Staff Reporter:

A Shahiwal breed bull has been specially prepared for the Qurbani market in Rajbari. The bull has already captured attention. The well-built, reddish coloured bull has been affectionately named “Raja of Rajbari” by its owner.

The light brown, six-toothed Raja weighs around 800 kg (approximately 20 maunds). The bull stands about 6 feet tall and is nearly 7 feet in length.

As Eid-ul-Azha draws near, the bull is poised to be the main attraction at the local livestock market. Raja has been priced at Tk8,00,000.

Sixty-one-year old Subhash Shikdar, a resident of Lakshminarayanpur village in Banibaha Union of Rajbari Sadar Upazila, is owner of the bull. He and his family members have been raising Raja at their ancestral home for the past four years.

Subhash Shikdar shared that he has nurtured Raja with great care for almost four years. The bull has been fed a mixture of dry straw, maize, khesari lentils, and barley-based bran, in addition to fresh green grass.

Dr Omar Faruk, livestock officer at Rajbari Sadar Upazila, noted that Subhash Shikdar has fattened the bull without using natural and not artificial methods.

“It is both healthy and visually impressive,’ he asserted.

According to the Rajbari District Livestock Department, there are a total of 47,963 sacrificial animals ready for Qurbani in the district this year.

Among these, 24,260 are cattle, 232 are buffaloes and 23,471 are goats, sheep, and other animals. The district’s projected demand for sacrificial animals is 41,601, leaving a surplus of 6,362 animals.
