AL’s old event shared as recent rally

Staff Reporter:

BanglaFact, a fact-checking and media research team of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), has identified a misleading claim where a 2020 protest video is being circulated as a recent Awami League rally.
According to BanglaFact’s investigation, a video from a 2020 protest was falsely shared on social media as footage of a recent Awami League rally.
The team found that the video was not from any recent rally by Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League. Instead, it was from a 2020 protest organized by the Chhatra League in Capital’s Gulistan pro-testing vandalism of an under-construction sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.
On May 18, the old video was falsely live streamed on Facebook with a misleading caption claiming it as a recent event.
