Shamyo murder case to be shifted to DB

Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) yesterday assured that the investigation into a Dhaka University (DU) student Shamyo murder case will be shifted to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
He was given the assurance when a DU delegation led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ah-med Khan called on the adviser at his ministry’s office in Bangladesh Secretariat.
Director (Acting) of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of DU Professor Hosne Ara Begum and student representatives were present during the meeting.
After coming out of the meeting, Hosne Ara Begum said they met the Home Adviser and dis-cussed holding the trial in the Shamyo murder case in a fair manner at the quickest possible time.
“The Home Adviser gave a patient hearing and took a note of the discussion and told us that they are trying their best in this regard”, she said.
One of the friends of Shamyo, SS Nahin, also a delegation member said that they have given Shahbagh police station a 48-hour ultimatum, but the progress in the case was not satisfactory.
The principal accused behind the killing of Shamyo are yet to be arrested since five days have al-ready elapsed after the murder.
