Staff Reporter:
Ex-president Abdul Hamid’s son Riad Ahmed Tushar published an emotionally-charged and cautionary post on Facebook on Thursday morning, urging people to stop defaming the Awami League leader.
Abdul Hamid should not be linked to Awami League’s misdeeds, Tushar suggested, saying his father had publicly announced retirement from politics following the end of his term as president.
In practice, Abdul Hamid kept his words and did not rejoin politics, Tushar claimed.
In the post Tushar claims his father is an aged and seriously ill person. Abdul Hamid cannot remain standing for even two minutes, or sit for two hours continuously, and has to eventually lie down. The former president’s weight has dropped to 54 kilograms, and the significantly reduced waist size has forced him to wear lungis (traditional long skirts) consistently instead of pants.
Due to severity of his physical condition, the Bangladesh doctors formed a board and subsequently decided to suggest foreign treatment.
Like any other citizen of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid reserves the right to seek better treatment in Thailand.
However, many people have fabricated Abdul Hamid’s departure from the country in such a way that is beyond imagination. The practice is akin to giving falsification the honour of “art.”
Tushar sought everyone’s blessings for his father’s speedy recovery and safe return to country.
Tushar wished the Almighty’s curse may fall on him if he has made any false claims in the facebook post. On the same note, he wished the Almighty may curse all the lying defamators if they do not repent for their falsifications.
Abdul Hamid was a key figure in the ousted fascist Awami League regime, but was widely believed to have played no role in the regime’s misdeeds. No lawsuit was filed against him for nearly six months following the regime’s ouster in a popular uprising.
Unfortunately, on 14 January, a murder case, the only lawsuit so far, was filed against him in Kishoreganj over the killing of an anti-Awami League street protester by armed assailants.
