Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday praised the interim government for banning Awami League’s (AL) political activities, but said the move should have been discussed with other political parties earlier.
“It would have been better had the government consulted with political parties before making the decision,” the Jamaat chief said while speaking to reporters after a seminar at CIRDAP Auditorium.
He also expressed hopes that the government would publish the “July Charter,” a blueprint for state reforms, within 30 days as stated by the administration.
He also called for reforms within the political parties themselves as politicians have been sheltering “miscreants” and destroying the decent political environment in Bangladesh.
He called on all politicians to avoid sheltering “criminals and miscreants.”
The chief of the country’s biggest Islamic party also urged the poor people to become aware of their rights. The country runs with the taxed paid by bot the rich and the poor, but many poor people are not aware of their contributions and their due rights, Dr Shafiqur Rahman noted.
