Two days of extra holiday after Eid

Staff Reporter:

The government yesterday announced two days of extra holidays after Eid-ul-Azha for smooth move-ment of people and simultaneously scrapped two subsequent Saturday weekends to recompense the vaca-tion.
“Using the authority under the Allocation of Business . . . the government announced June 11 and 12, 2025 on Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays and to keep offices open on May 17 Saturday and May 24 Saturday, 2025 in the interest of official works,” a public administration ministry statement said.
The statement said the executive order was issued under Allocation of Business among the Different Ministries and Divisions (Schedule 1 of the Rules of Business, 1966) (Revised up to April 2017) part of the Ministry of Public Administration serial 37.
It said all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices would re-main open on the subsequent two Saturdays on May 17 and May 24 to compensate the holidays on June 11 and 12.
But, the statement, said the workers and vehicles engaged in essential services, including electricity, wa-ter, gas, fuel, fire service, port operations, sanitation, telephone and internet, postal operations remain beyond the purview of the holiday.
In an identical manner people related to hospitals and medical care and the transport of medicines and equipment will also remain operational.
“Offices involved in urgent duties (as well) will remain beyond the purview of the holiday,” the state-ment said.
It said the Supreme Court and Bangladesh Bank would issue separate directives regarding banking opera-tions and court activities during this period.
The interim government earlier announced a 10-day holiday for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
