Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has been awarded an honorary Presidential Medal during his visit to the Central African Republic (CAR).
After the visit, he returned home on Thursday, said an ISPR release.
During the visit, the army chief was briefed on various activities of the Bangladeshi contingents and Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed as part of the UN peacekeeping mission in the African country. At that time, he provided valuable guidance.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman met the Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) Valentine Rugwabiza and Force Commander Lieutenant General Humphrey Nyone.
He held important discussions on various issues of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the UN peacekeeping.
The army chief participated in a bilateral meeting with the chief of the Central African Republic Armed Forces (FACA), General Mamadou Zephirin.
During the meeting, he discussed bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the armies of the two countries.
Later, the president of the Central African Republic and the army chief inaugurated the Touadéra Community Clinic built in the Central African Republic by the Bangladesh Army as a part of the peacekeeping mission to assist civilians.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman also held a bilateral meeting with Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra.
In recognition of his significant contribution to the overall development of the people of the CAR, especially in the field of medicine, the president conferred the honorary presidential title on the Bangladesh Army chief.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman also visited the contingents of the Bangladesh Army deployed in the Bangui area of the Central African Republic.
The visit of the Bangladesh Army chief will further strengthen the friendly relations between the Central African Republic and Bangladesh as well as help boost the morale of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers stationed there.
Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman left Dhaka for the Central African Republic on Monday.
