‘Quality of govt sponsor films must be improved’

Staff Reporter:

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam said yesterday that the production style of gov-ernment grants- recipient films should be improved.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will provide support to improve the quality of films re-ceiving the government grants, he said.
The information adviser made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an event at Information Building here.
The ministry organised the event – lab — to provide guidelines for the production of the grants receiving films in the fiscal year 2024-2025 in collaboration with producers and industry experts.
Stressing the need for developing the skills of filmmakers, the information adviser said there is no alter-native to developing the skills of the people involved in films in the production of quality films.
He said the experience the industry experts will share in the lab on providing guidelines for film produc-tion will enrich filmmakers, especially young filmmakers.
Mahfuj Alam said integrated management is in place in many countries of the world for film production. Such a complete structure has not yet been developed in Bangladesh, he said.
However, he expressed hope that if Kabirpur Film City is built, a modern and integrated infrastructure for film production will be developed.
Speaking on the occasion, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana said this is the first time that a lab is being arranged with filmmakers, who received government grants, at the initiative of the ministry.
Such a lab is needed to improve the quality of films under production under grants, she said.
She called upon the filmmakers to use the knowledge and experience gained in the lab to improve the quality of films.
Additional Secretary of the ministry Md. Kawsar Ahmed, Chairman of the Department of Television, Film and Photography at Dhaka University Professor SM Imran Hossain and officials of the ministry were present.
