London Clinic to offer unified medical care for Khaleda Zia

Staff Reporter:

Doctors at the London Clinic in the UK have decided to provide BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia with a “one-stop service” for her medical treatment, where various specialists will address her health concerns under a unified plan.

Speaking to reporters in London, Khaleda’s personal physician, Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, conveyed the decision on Wednesday.

Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at the London Clinic since January 8.

Zahid said the BNP chief’s latest medical reports were reviewed by a medical board led by Professor John Patrick, who recommended additional tests.

Two more specialist doctors are expected to examine her condition soon, Zahid noted.

“She is currently receiving treatment for several complications, including liver and kidney, heart diabetes, high blood pressure and rheumatoid arthritis,” the physician said.

Zahid also mentioned consultations with a medical team from Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States, as part of the initiative to provide a comprehensive ‘one-stop service’ for Khaleda’s treatment.

Doctors from Johns Hopkins participated in the medical board’s meeting to collaborate on her care plan.

The treatment strategy considers Khaleda’s age, the adverse effects of her prolonged confinement in Bangladesh over the past five and a half years, and the inadequate medical care she received during that time, Zahid explained.

Further steps in her treatment plan will involve consultations with extended members of the medical board, both in London and other countries.

Zahid urged the people of Bangladesh to pray for Khaleda’s speedy recovery. “On behalf of her family, we request the country’s people to pray for her,” he said.

Khaleda Zia, 79, has long been suffering from severe health conditions, including liver cirrhosis, kidney issues, heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis.
