‘July mass uprising brings scope to work for country’

Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam Bir Protik yesterday said the mass uprising in July 2024 has created an unprecedented opportunity to work selflessly for the country which doesn’t come time and again.
“The martyrs through their sacrifices has entrusted a responsibility on us to work for the nation selflessly. So, we have to accomplish the task with courage and without wasting time to establish our valour and dignity,” he said.
The adviser said this while addressing a workshop on Employment Generation Program for the Poorest (EGPP) of Cox’s Bazar district at a hotel in the capital yesterday.
EGPP is a very important initiative taken for extreme poor, the adviser said adding that under the initiative poor are getting financial support which is playing a significant role for their social uplift and create livelihood opportunities.
Terming the influx of the displaced Myanmar citizens in Cox’s Bazar as a big challenge for the region, the adviser said it has caused extensive social and financial damage to the local people, ef-fecting their everyday life.
Given the above situation, the EGPP programme taken for Cox’s Bazar district is playing a very crucial role in creating employment opportunities, poverty alleviation and development of the live-lihood of the local people, he said.
Disaster management and relief secretary M Kamrul Hasan presided over the meeting while Direc-tor General of Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman and EGPP project director Anjan Chandra Pal spoke among others.
