At least 16,000 people were killed across the country, including the capital Dhaka, in the last five years of rule of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, according to a report of the police headquarters.
Nine people were killed on an average per day during the period, said the report published on the website of Bangladesh Police Headquarters.
A total of 16,555 people were killed from 2019 to 2023 and these murders were committed by family members, terrorists or miscreants, it added.
The number was found based on the complaints lodged with different police stations across the country during the period and the actual number will be more, it said.
A total of 3,311 killings took place across the country per year, the report said.
