Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has urged Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to build national unity against those who appear as a threat to the country’s independence and sovereignty.
“We told the chief adviser that there are many challenges for us in the coming days. We must form a national unity to face the challenges, including resisting those who pose a threat to the country’s independence, sovereignty and stability,” he said.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman told reporters after emerging from a meeting held with the chief adviser at the state guest house Jamuna in Dhaka on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, a delegation led by party’s Ameer held the meeting with the chief adviser to discuss the country’s prevailing situation.
On Wednesday, a BNP delegation led by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also placed the same demand for the sake of the country’s overall security.
“While talking about national unity during the meeting, we expressed our concern but it does not mean everything of the government went in vain,” he said.
He said they discussed several current issues, including how the country can move towards the national election through a process, maintaining peace and law and order.
“We also discussed how to build a national unity, irrespective of party affiliation, religion or ethnicity and how to bring dynamism to the public administration,” he said.
