BNP submits 62 proposals to reform commission

Staff Reporter:

BNP on Tuesday submitted a total of 62 proposals to the Constitutional Reform Commission, including the retention of the positions of Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister.
The party’s proposals also include introducing a provision to limit a Prime Minister’s tenure to no more than two consecutive terms, the creation of a second chamber in Parliament and provisions for referen-dums.
A two-member delegation, led by the party’s standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, submitted a written copy of the proposals to Professor Ali Riaz, the head of the Constitutional Reform Commis-sion, at the Parliament building.
Speaking to reporters, Salahuddin explained that the proposals were submitted to ensure a balance of power in line with the desire of the people.
“We have made proposals concerning the judiciary, as well as recommendations for the establishment of a Vice President and a Deputy Prime Minister. We have addressed all aspects relating to the executive, judiciary, and legislative branches to ensure a balance of power,” he said.
The BNP leader said the Constitutional Reform Commission would present the proposals to the govern-ment for its consideration.
He hoped that their proposals could be implemented through the discussions with the political parties.
