Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and her cohorts, involved in enforced disappearance, will not be allowed to do politics in the country, Chief Adviser Prof Mohammed Yunus’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Friday.
“We will ensure justice for all incidents relating to the enforced disappearance on a priority basis,” he said this pointing his finger at former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her cohorts.
While addressing a programme in Dhaka on Friday afternoon, he expressed the government’s determination as the victims of the enforced disappearance demanded the justice in light of the international law in this regard.
“Some people are waiting with tears in their eyes, holding their father’s photos in their hands or their husband’s photos on their chests for justice. A new sun rose on the horizon of Bangladesh on 5 August but the victims and their family members of the enforced disappearance are still in a deep dark,” he said.
The people, who became able to come out of the confinement from the “Ayna Ghar” through the July-August mass uprising, took part in the programme and shared their horrible experiences.
Describing Sheikh Hasina as the mastermind behind the incidents of the enforced disappearance, they also urged the government to take steps to bring back those who are still missing.
“Our government is working with an accelerated pace to this end,” he said expressing the government’s determination to give no space to Awami League in politics.
Calling upon the victims’ family members to continue their protest, Shafiqul Alam stated that the government has received over 3,500 complaints of enforced disappearances so far.
